Understanding Pattern Repeat

Pattern repeat is the most commonly overlooked measurement factor — and the most common cause of running short. Every patterned wallpaper has a repeat: the vertical distance before the pattern repeats itself. When hanging multiple panels side by side, each panel must be cut so the pattern aligns across the join, which creates waste. The larger the pattern repeat, the more waste — and the more rolls you need.

The Golden Rules of Wallpaper Measurement

  • Always measure at multiple points: Walls are rarely perfectly uniform. Use the largest measurement.
  • Always account for pattern repeat: Check the pattern repeat on your chosen product page and factor it into your calculation.
  • Always order at least one extra roll: For pattern matching waste, cutting mistakes, and future repairs.
